Job Overview
We’re seeking a Product Designer – Design System Specialist to own, evolve and promote centralized design systems, and token frameworks across a diverse portfolio of digital products. You’ll partner with product teams, engineers and other designers to build, maintain and scale a living UI component libraries —and craft seamless end-to-end experiences across digital products.
Responsibilities
- Define and document a scalable component library (atoms, molecules, organisms) and design-token framework for colors, typography, spacing, etc.
- Create user flows, wireframes and prototypes to address client needs and solve UX challenges.
- Design, prototype and hand off reusable UI components (buttons, cards, forms, etc.) in Figma (or Sketch), Storybook and code-friendly specs.
- Maintain comprehensive design-system documentation (usage guidelines, dos & don’ts, accessibility standards) in our central repository.
- Collaborate with frontend engineers to align on structure, naming conventions and implementation details; ensure pixel-perfect fidelity from design file to production.
- Audit product interfaces for consistency; identify patterns and propose system updates based on live-product findings.
- Embed WCAG-compliant accessibility best practices into every component; conduct targeted accessibility reviews.
- Coordinate version releases of the design system, communicate changes to stakeholders and manage backward compatibility.
- Promote the design system —run workshops, office hours and one-on-one sessions to drive adoption and best practices.
- Gather feedback from designers and developers; prioritize and roadmap enhancements to the design system based on data and stakeholder input.
- Stay abreast of design-system trends, tools (Figma Plugins, CSS-in-JS libraries, Token Studio) and emerging best practices.
- Find creative ways to solve broader UX challenges beyond the design system.
- Conduct usability testing and gather feedback on prototypes and live features.
- Understand product specifications, conduct user research and map user journeys across multiple platforms.
- Analyze existing applications and evaluate their UX effectiveness, considering Human–Computer Interaction principles.
- Communicate scenarios, interaction models and end-to-end experiences to the product team.
- Share design ideas and interactive prototypes with developers and cross-functional partners.
- Identify problems in designs, suggest and implement the best possible solutions in an iterative fashion.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years working specifically on a shared design system or component library as a Product/UX/UI Designer—or equivalent product-design experience.
- Expert proficiency in Figma (libraries & styles), Sketch or Adobe XD, and hands-on experience with Storybook, Zeplin, InVision DSM or similar.
- Demonstrated knowledge of design-token management (Style Dictionary, Theo or similar) and integration into development workflows.
- Extensive knowledge of best UX-design practices, interaction-design principles and grid systems to craft outstanding solutions.
- Proven track record implementing and auditing WCAG 2.1+ accessibility standards within both component libraries and product features.
- Strong skills in creating user flows, wireframes, prototypes and high-fidelity mockups.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication, with ability to produce clear documentation and run training sessions.
- Ability to conduct user research, usability testing and translate qualitative/quantitative findings into design improvements.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical skills and data-driven mindset to measure adoption and prioritize system/product enhancements.
- Keen eye for detail, with meticulous attention to naming conventions, cross-platform consistency and pixel-perfect execution.
- Ability to work independently, manage pressure and respond rapidly to evolving product requirements.
- Collaborative spirit and passion for design consistency; able to inspire others to adopt, contribute to and evolve the system.
- Exceptional listening skills and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
